The novel coronavirus outbreak - which is now at pandemic status - has led to the cancellation or postponement of many annual or regular events. Accordingly, Apple has revealed that its worldwide developer's conference (WWDC) will be held online. This is the first time in 31 years that the event will not be a live event.
The Cupertino company has assured its global community of over 23 million registered developers that its conference's new and "innovative" format will offer a full panel of sessions for their education and information. Apple also projects that WWDC online will also appeal to consumers and relevant correspondents.
Then again, the company is also aware that the Californian city of San Jose, where the same event is traditionally held, may experience adversity as a result of the need to hold it online this year instead. Therefore, it has also stated that it is to commit a total of US$1 million to help ameliorate the economic impact to local businesses in this area. WWDC 2020 will be broadcast to its audience in June.
