The Zen 4-based AMD Ryzen 9 7950X is quite the overclocking monster. One user managed to push it past the 7.0 GHz and 6.0 GHz barriers on the single and multi-core front, shattering all of Zen 3's records by a wide margin.

Although AMD still holds world for the record for the maximum clock speed achievable by a processor, Intel could soon catch up with it thanks to Raptor Lake-based Core i9-13900K breezing past the 8 GHz barrier. Team Red won't be left behind this generation, though, because the AMD Ryzen 9 7950X just showed off some serious overclocking chops.

@TUM_APISAK spotted a sample of the Zen 4 processor running at a blazing fast 7.247 GHz on one core. Its multi-core clocks were equally impressive at 6.500 GHz. Interestingly enough, the voltage for the former was just 1.506 V and 1.465 for the latter. The Intel Raptor Lake processor mentioned earlier pushed its voltage to 1.792V.

Unfortunately, the listing doesn't mention the cooling mechanism used for the AMD Ryzen 9 7950X in this run. The user may be employing a well-designed water-cooling loop because one can push the voltages much further with LN2.

Extreme overclockers should have no trouble breaking this record once the AMD Ryzen 9 7950X has been out and about for a while. However, it is unlikely to hit the magical 8.0 GHz figure and likely stall at around the 7.5 GHz area. That is still quite impressive considering that its predecessor, the AMD Ryzen 9 5950X barely managed to hit 6.0 GHz.
