1TB 2021 iPhones may be back on the table, as is LiDAR for all variants

The idea of a new top-end 1TB SKU in the next-gen iPhone series has been raised and then shot down again in leaks emanating from market analysts trying to assess the new devices' specs and success ahead of their launch. However, the latest such tip asserts that this new option will indeed be announced by Apple during its upcoming product event.

The Wedbush consultant group has reiterated its claim that the next-gen iPhones, a series thought by many to be called 12s rather than 13, will feature SKUs that double the current largest storage capacity known to these Apple devices, thereby bringing them up to 1TB for the first time.

The analysts did not mention which "iPhone 12s" variants it believes will get this treatment, although it is most likely to apply to the successor to the 12 Pro Max and possibly the Pro. However, it has stated that they will feature the LiDAR sensor heretofore only seen in the iPad Pro series.

Not only that, Wedbush now insists that the iPhone 12 and 12 Mini replacements will also have this spec. The group also claims that, according to its sources in the Asia supply chain, approximately 90 to 100 million of these "12s" units have or will be manufactured.

This impressive figure is a 10% increase compared to the same point in 2020, and is thought to be due to the projected demand for the iPhone 12s/13 series, linked to consumer confidence boosted by increased vaccinations in the near future. All in all, Wedbush is confident that Apple will do very well out of the upcoming updated iPhones.
