MagyarToshiba reveals the Qosmio F750 glasses-free 3D notebook
We have come across a number of incomplete reviews along with first-impression and hands-on articles/videos, but those seem to be more negative than positive. The notion of having a device that lets you enjoy 3D content without the clumsy glasses on is undoubtedly quite appealing; however it looks like there are still a few issues with the technology that the manufacturer has to deal with.
The new Qosmio F750 3D notebook that was launched at an event in the UK yesterday benefits from a “special” lenticular 3D screen with the integrated web camera following your movements in order to determine where you are and align the 3D image. Nevertheless, according to Pocket-Lint, if the user changes his or her position even briefly, that would result in a temporary distortion effect (before it readjusts itself again).
The guys over at Engadget, on the other hand, claim that once your eyes and brain get used to the 3D effect, the feeling is great. In addition, the eye-tracking system is supposedly very quick and cannot be misled by sudden movements. Unfortunately, they also conclude that the adjustment of the 3D effect is slow.
Even though the new 3D Qosmio laptop is expected to hit the shelves next month, the models that have been partly reviewed so far are still technically pre-release, so Toshiba has time to work on some of the issues.
Configuration
The F750 3D will be equipped with a Full HD 15.6-inch 120Hz lenticular widescreen display that is presumably capable of showing 2D and 3D images simultaneously. Moreover, the portable computer will be powered by a second generation Sandy Bridge Intel Core i7 central processing unit and will sport a discrete NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M graphics controller with 2GB of dedicated VRAM.
Toshiba’s new notebook will reportedly house 6GB of internal DDR3 memory, a spacious 640GB mechanical hard drive that rotates at 5400RPM and a Blu-Ray XL optical re-recordable drive.
Connectivity
Customers will be able to stay connected via the built-in Wireless LAN 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth 3.0+HS modules. Additionally, the laptop offers four USB ports (3xUSB 2.0/1xUSB 3.0 with USB Sleep-and-Charge), an HDMI interface, multi-in-1 memory card reader slot and the aforementioned web camera.
Other specs and Pricing
The 3D F750 will reportedly ship with a pre-installed copy of Microsoft’s Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit operating system and will have a starting weight of 2.8kg. There is no word on the battery life but considering all the specs and capabilities of Toshiba’s new Qosmio system, it might not be too impressive.
Other features include Harman Kardon stereo speakers, Dolby Advanced Audio and a starting price of £1,300 (US $2,100).
