Samsung unveiled its 64 MP sensor a while ago but it hasn't been adopted by any OEM yet. That will change this week, though, as word on the grapevine claims Xiaomi will release a new smartphone with that sensor on August 7. Even more interesting is the theory that it could be the Redmi Note 8.

Samsung unveiled the world's first 64 MP smartphone camera sensor a while ago. In typical fashion, OEMs look to be set to adopt the technology, if only for the fact that 64 MP sounds more impressive than anything else on the market. Realme was touted to be the first company to launch a phone with the sensor but new information claims Xiaomi may beat them to the punch.

According to the source, Xiaomi is set to unveil a new device on August 7. That device will sport Samsung's new 64 MP sensor, the ISOCELL Bright GW1. It's interesting that Xiaomi has this launch event scheduled for August 7, considering Realme's event is billed for August 8. Looks like a case of the company doing it for bragging rights of having the first 64 MP camera phone.

It's unknown what device will be launched but there's a chance we get the Redmi Note 8. The Redmi Note 7 was released back in January, so it wouldn't be implausible to get a successor at this time. For what it's worth, the Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 6 Pro also had a similar release schedule last year.
