Xiaomi to enter the US market

Xiaomi smartphones to enter the US market in the coming years

The Chinese phone maker recently entered various emerging markets but they also plan to enter the US market as soon as possible.

Xiaomi launched its first handset in August 2011 only on the Chinese market but soon expanded its operations into Singapore, Russia, Brazil, India, and Mexico. While this could create the image of just another maker of cheap handsets, the company plans to change this perception of its potential Western customers by "sitting down with them and show them what’s good about us."

Xiaomi’s Global VP, Hugo Barra recently spoke to Android Authority and said the company will begin working on products compatible with the North American LTE bands next year. Unfortunately, he did not reveal a timeline for the actual launch of the brand on the US market. "We will start working on North America next year…  It’s in the pipeline." he said.

Barra is confident in the chances Xiaomi has to conquer a market where big names like Sony and HTC are still struggling. According to him, the custom MIUI interface and the excellent value offered by Xiaomi handsets are two major advantages that could make the difference. He even claims that "the quality of our software experience is superior to anything you see on the market."

Remains to be seen how fast will Xiaomi manage to complete its first devices ready for the US market and if the consumers will find them worthy of their attention.
