The handset officially launched on August 12th and has been priced at $130 for the basic 16 GB version and $160 for the 32 GB one.

The Chinese smartphone maker, Xiaomi, has been extremely successful recently. Just two weeks ago it was reported to have overthrown Apple as the no. 1 spot in the Chinese market. Today, we learned that its newest handset, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 broke the sales record in China with over 800,000 units sold within the first 12 hours from launch.

Right now, Xiaomi is focusing heavily on the local market but at the same time the company has started taking steps towards expanding its business abroad, starting with Brasil, India or Phillipines. It’s probably just a matter of time before we hear about Xiaomi starting official distribution of its devices in the US and/or Europe.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 features the following specifications:

  • 5.5-inch, 1080p display
  • Mediatek MT6795 Octa-core 2.0 GHz SoC with PowerVR G6200 GPU
  • 16 GB or 32 GB of internal memory (partially taken up by the OS), expandable via microSD
  • 2 GB of RAM
  • 13 MP main, rear camera
  • 5 MP front camera
  • 3060 mAh removable battery
  • Dual-SIM
  • 4G LTE
  • Android 5.0 with MIUI7 interface

The handset officially launched on August 12th and has been priced at $130 for the basic 16 GB version and $160 for the 32 GB one.
