Xiaomi rumored to be working on its first smartwatch

Teaser
According to a new rumor, Xiaomi is currently developing its first smartwatch. In addition to a round display, the Xiaomi smartwatch is also said to feature a metal housing.

Last week Apple officially unveiled the Apple Watch, a premium smartwatch that a lot of people were waiting for, but not exactly the device that many were expecting to see. With the Apple Watch scheduled to launch on April 24 in select countries across the globe, a fresh rumor claims that Xiaomi - a startup that's often called China's Apple in its home market - is also working on a smartwatch of its own.

At the moment, we don't have any concrete technical information to report, but the new rumor suggests that the Xiaomi smartwatch will come with a round display and a metal housing. In addition to its first smartwatch, Xiaomi is also said to be working on a new version of the Xiaomi Mi Band fitness-centric wearable.

The recent rumor says that the Xiaomi smartwatch and the Xiaomi Mi Band 2 will both combine a high-quality design with a relatively low price, which is exactly the recipe that Xiaomi has successfully followed with all of its devices. If this rumor turns out to be accurate, then the Xiaomi smartwatch could be similar in design to the LG G Watch R and the Motorola Moto 360.

The rumor comes just a couple of weeks after Huawei - another major Chinese tech company - announced a smartwatch of its own, the Huawei Watch. Much like the rumored Xiaomi smartwatch, the Huawei Watch features a round display, a metal housing, and runs Android Wear.
