Xiaomi presents the new Huami AmazFit 2 smartwatch

Some of the more recent additions to Xiaomi’s lineup of products are the smart wearable devices, with the Huami AmazFit family of smartwatches and sport bands being launched back in 2016. Among the first wave of Xiaomi wearables was the AmazFit Pace smartwatch, which quickly became a hit on the Chinese market, such that Xiaomi showed an interest in updating the device and is now announcing the successor with the Huami AmazFit Smart Sports Watch 2. The company also mentioned that the new model could be launched for the Western markets under the AmazFit Pace 2 moniker.

The new smartwatch version improves on most of the original’s features. The base is now made of carbon fiber reinforced polycarbonate, and comes with a polished ceramic bezel along with three 316L steel navigation buttons and a 2.5D sapphire crystal front panel that protects a 1.34-inch reflective low-power color capacitive display with 320 x 300 resolution. The processing power under the hood has been upgraded to a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor coupled with 512 MB RAM and 4 GB of internal storage, of which only 2 GB are free, the rest being occupied by the proprietary Watch 2.0 OS. Other outstanding features include:
•    NFC payment, smart home control, Bluetooth song player, push notifications

•    Suite of sensors such as heart rate monitor, accelerometer, gyro, compass, barometer, ambient light sensor
•    280 mAh battery
•    USB interface for data transfers and charging
•    50-meter waterproofing

The AmazFit Smart Sports Watch 2 is now available for around US$140 at the Chinese e-tailer TMall. There also is a US$200 premium version that comes with a more casual leather strap, in addition to the standard sport strap.
