Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 series to compete against Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 range with a large battery; possible May or summer 2021 release scheduled
It is unknown if Xiaomi plans to release the Mi Pad 5 series internationally, but Digital Chat Station claims that the company will announce new tablets this month. A Xiaomi product manager believes otherwise though, as the screeenshot below shows. Based on recent leaks, Xiaomi is working on three tablets that all appear to be linked. Speculatively, the Mi Pad 5, Mi Pad 5 Pro and Mi Pad 5 Pro Plus would seem likely names for the three tablets. However, Xiaomi also has a penchant for 'Ultra' so we would not be surprised if there was a Mi Pad 5 Ultra instead of a Mi Pad 5 Pro Plus.
Regardless, Xiaomi has certified a dual-cell battery with the 3C, presumably for an upcoming tablet. Each cell has a 4,260 mAh capacity, which when doubled gives a total closer to the 8,000 mAh battery in the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 than the 10,090 mAh battery in the Galaxy Tab S7 Plus.
This 8,520 mAh battery will probably power the Snapdragon 860 or Snapdragon 870, which are both expected to feature in the Mi Pad 5 series. The Mi Pad 5 trio are expected to feature 120 Hz displays too, which would give the Galaxy Tab S7 series a run for its money. We would expect Xiaomi to pre-install MIUI 12 or MIUI 12.5 on the Mi Pad 5 series as well, which the company currently bases on up to Android 11.
