Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold successor to launch in 2022

Xiaomi may be preparing to release the 12 series soon, but Ross Young of Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) is already looking beyond the likes of the Xiaomi 12 and the Xiaomi 12X. For context, Xiaomi is also expected to release the MIX 5 and MIX 5 Pro soon, previously thought of as the 12 Ultra and the 12 Ultra Enhanced.

According to Young, Xiaomi will not release another foldable smartphone this year. Instead, DSCC has pegged a successor for 2022, albeit without providing any specifics. Xiaomi unveiled the Mi Mix Fold in March and started selling a month later, for reference. Assuming Xiaomi follows its annual release strategy with the Mix Fold series, its next foldable smartphone should arrive in late Q1 2022 or early Q2 2022.

However, the next Mix Fold may not be a second-generation model. According to a renowned leaker on Weibo, the next Mix Fold will be more of a mid-cycle refresh, like Apple's 'S' or OnePlus' 'T' series. The next Mix Fold is believed to feature a Camera Under Panel (CUP) and 120 Hz displays though, so it could be a decent alternative to the Galaxy Z Fold3.
