Xiaomi Mi 5 Pro: Smartphone star causes a stir

The Xiaomi Mi 5 Pro feels like a handset to match many of the other devices we've seen launch recently. With a release date planned for 1 March for the Chinese market, it will then be launching in India with more territories planned for the future. We're yet to see exactly what that means, or exactly how much it might cost, but we're looking at around £300 for a flagship spec handset, half the price of mainstream rivals.

Model: The Xiaomi Mi 5 Pro is a covetable, sleek looking, and powerful smartphone. Its aluminium frame curves perfectly along the lines and seamlessly blends into the glass that makes the smartphone not only gorgeous to look at but also comfortable to hold. It is running on its proprietary MIUI 7 on top of Android Marshmallow and it comes with a top notch 2.15 GHz Snapdragon 820 processor and 4 GB RAM for more power. There is no MicroSD card slot but it is packed with 128 GB of storage. The 5.15 inch Full HD screen is bright and sharp but it is only capable of displaying Full HD and not Quad HD. With only Full HD capability, the smartphone is not good enough for Virtual Reality applications.

The camera is a 16 MP Sony sensor with dual-tone flash. It also offers optical image stabilization and phase detection, and autofocus. There is also a 4 MP front camera for taking selfies with the help of beautify, facial recognition, skin smoothing, whitening and backlight correction functions. The phone is only available in black color. It weighs 129 g, which is impressively light and has 3000 mAh battery. Due to the Snapdragon 820 processor, there is also a Quick Charge 3.0 function available.

Qualcomm Adreno 530: Integrated graphics card in the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 that is clocked at up to 624 MHz. Early 2016 it is a high end graphics card for Android based smartphones and tablets that should be able to coop with very demanding games.

Non demanding games should be playable with these graphics cards.

It is a very small display format for smartphones. You should by no means be mis-sighted and you will generally see very little on the screen and only have a small resolution available. In return, the device should be very small and handy.
