Reportedly, Xiaomi is preparing to showcase its first EV as early as this year. While the company is not expected to begin mass-producing vehicles for another two years, it could have a prototype model ready for delectation by the autumn.

Last November, it emerged that Xiaomi would mass-produce EVs in Beijing's E-Town, a 500 km² area in which Chrysler and Daimler AG already operate, among others. Reputedly, Xiaomi hopes to produce up to 300,000 EVs per year, starting during the first half of 2024. However, the company may be ready to showcase something from its automotive endeavours as soon as this year.

According to reports from China, Xiaomi Automotive will present a prototype or concept EV before the end of the year. Allegedly, the company has a Q3 2022 reveal in mind, although it remains to be seen in what form that takes. For example, Xiaomi will miss the 2022 Beijing International Automotive Exhibition, scheduled between April 21 and April 30. However, this year's Indonesia International Autio Show falls between August 12 and August 21, which would provide Xiaomi with a platform to unveil a prototype within Q3 2022.

Alternatively, Xiaomi could host a dedicated event, much like it does for its smartphone releases. Ultimately, the company is likely still three years away from bringing any EVs to market. In the meantime, many other players are entering the market, such as Lucid Motors and Rivian, among others.
