Microsoft has reputedly closed the book on Windows 10X and, by extension, the Surface Neo. According to a report, Microsoft no longer plans to ship Windows 10X and has redeployed resources to other projects.

According to Petri, Microsoft has redeployed resources that it was using to develop Windows 10X. While the website has not disclosed where Microsoft has redeployed these resources to, it seemingly means the end of the road for Windows 10X. Petri added:

Microsoft will not be shipping Windows 10X this year and the OS as you know it today, will likely never arrive.

To recap, Microsoft announced Windows 10X in 2019, but it delayed its release from 2020 until 2021. Originally developed for dual-screen devices, Windows 10X was then repositioned by Microsoft for single-screen devices, possibly to take on Chromebooks.

If Windows 10X has been shelved indefinitely, then we imagine that Microsoft has also dealt the same fate to the Surface NeoPetri believes that Microsoft will provide an update on Windows 10X eventually, but we cannot see how the company could release the Surface Neo without it. Hence, the prototype that leaked last month may become the closest that we ever came to seeing a Surface Neo in the wild.
