Windows 10 for phones coming in December
Microsoft's Lumia 950, Lumia 950 XL, and Lumia 550 smartphones will ship next month as part of the first wave of handsets with Windows 10 pre-loaded. Since Windows 10 Mobile has even lower requirements than Windows Phone 8.1, there is no surprise that multiple existing phones will get it as an update as well. Unfortunately for owners of such handsets, they will have to wait until December to get the new firmware.
WinBeta writes that Microsoft Lumia revealed in a Facebook comment yesterday that Windows 10 Mobile will hit existing Windows Phone handsets in December. In addition to Lumia and other smartphones, Windows-powered tablets should get the update starting in December as well. As it usually happens with new Windows releases these days, members of the Windows Insider program should get the RTM earlier.
Microsoft Lumia devices will be the first ones to be updated starting in December, while owners of various other Windows phones sold by carriers will have to wait at least a few weeks until they get the new Windows 10 Mobile firmware. We will keep you posted as we hear more about this, so stay tuned.
