Toshiba introduces U845W and U945 ultrabooks and S955 notebook
Toshiba announced yesterday a flurry of new notebooks including three optimized for Windows 8 – the Satellite U845W, Satellite U945, and Satellite U955. Carl Pinto, Vice President of Marketing for Toshiba America Information Systems Inc stated that, “Toshiba’s new line of Ultrabooks and thin-and-light laptops are designed to give consumers an excellent Windows 8 experience.” All three notebooks feature Synaptics TouchPads or ClickPads which can be used with Windows 8’s gesture support.
Satellite U845W Ultrabook
Toshiba claims the Satellite U845W is the first Ultrabook to use a 14.4-inch ultra-wide HD display. With a resolution of 1792x768, the 21:9 aspect ratio display certainly differs from most typical notebook screens. The less-than-one-inch-thick Satellite U845W also allows extensive configuration options. Processor options include the Intel Ivy Bridge Core i5 and Core i7. The storage devices include a 500 GB physical disk with a 32 GB SSD cache and a 256 GB SSD-only solution. The notebook also features 6 GB DDR3-1600, three USB 3.0 ports, HDMI output, and a memory card slot.
Satellite U945 Ultrabook
The Satellite U945 weighs less than four pounds and has a thickness less than 0.8 inches. This notebook features a 14-inch HD display, a 500 GB physical drive with 32 GB SSD cache, 2 USB 3.0 ports and 1 USB 2.0 port, DDR3-1600 memory, HDMI output, and a memory card slot. The processor options include Intel Ivy Bridge Core i3 and Core i5 processors. A keyboard backlight is optional for this model.
Satellite S955 Laptop
The Satellite 955 is a slim laptop with a thickness less than one inch. Processor options include the Intel Ivy Bridge Core processors and AMD A Series APUs. Other features include up to 750 GB of hard drive space, up to 8 GB of DDR3 memory, two USB 3.0 ports and 1 USB 2.0 port, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi support, Bluetooth 4.0, and a memory card reader.
All three models will be available starting October 26, 2012.
