80% Toshiba Qosmio G40 10E multimedia laptop
Source: PC Advisor
Although affordability is often a key concern when choosing a laptop, if you want the very best performance it can be worth spending a bit extra. Features such as superior quality of display are expected if you are forking out a lot for a multimedia laptop and Toshiba has achieved an extremely high standard in the 17in screen of its Qosmio G40 10E. Supporting HD-DVD playback, we were impressed by the Toshiba Qosmio G40 10E’s smooth and crisp display when watching high-definition films. But the multimedia capabilities don't stop there as the Toshiba Qosmio G40 10E incorporates an HDDVD writable drive. The Toshiba Qosmio G40 10E is attractive from the outside, with its glossy dark blue casing and silver lettering. But while the white interior may look clean, the obtrusive dials, flashing lights and large speakers are slightly less stylish.

Comment
Toshiba: Toshiba is one of the biggest international notebook-manufacturer. There exist many reviews for Toshiba models. The ratings of German magazines are very positive, but the relation of price and value is evaluated rather average. The ratings according the features and display are also quite well for Toshiba notebooks.
These cards should be able to display all current games with fluent framerates but not all with high detail settings. Especially demanding games like Crysis, Age of Conan, or Mass Effect are only playable with lower settings. Less demanding (and older) games, like Fifa 08, Command & Conquer 3, or Battlefield 2142 can be played with higher detail levels.
NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT: The NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT is the DirectX 10 capable successor of the GeForce Go 7600 GT GPU for laptops. Depending on the used graphic memory and the clock speed, the performance is between the 7600 GT and 7900 GS video card.

Intel Core 2 Duo: This is the Core Duo and Core Solo successor with a longer pipeline and 5-20% more speed without more power consumption. As an addition to the Core Duo design there exists a fourth decoder, an amplified SSE-unit and an additional arithmetical logical unit (ALU).
The Core 2 Duo for laptops is identical to the desktop Core 2 Duo processors but the notebook-processors work with lower voltages (0.95 to 1188 Volt) and a lower Frontside bus clock (1066 vs 667 MHz). The performance of equally clocked notebooks is 20-25% lower than Desktop PCs because of the lower Frontside bus clock and the slower hard disks.
17.1: Nowadays, meanwhile the 17 inch display size is a more frequently offered standard format for desktop-replacements. 17 inch laptops are built only in 16:10 format.
The DTR-Laptops can't be carried easily, need much current, but on the other side texts can be read easily and high resolutions are no problem. DTR mainly are intended for stationary usage on desks, where the weight and the energy need are unimportant.

4.4 kg:
This laptop is heavy below average, compared with the average of notebooks. Therefore especially desktop replacements fit in this class of weight.
4.4 kg:
70%: This rating is bad. Most notebooks are better rated. This is not a recommendation for purchase.
