The Toshiba Portege Z930 is priced at Rs. 96,000 here in India. It’s not necessarily the sturdiest of Ultrabooks, but it is one of the lighest. So if you’re travelling a lot and need something light and reasonably powerful, then this has to be it. Of course, you sacrifice some of the other things like a sturdy frame and a bit of ergonomics and aesthetics.

Toshiba has updated its flagship Ultrabook - the Z830 has become the Z930. Featuring the latest Ivy Bridge Intel Core processors, we hope it means that the £800 Z830 gets even cheaper as a result.

The Toshiba Portege Z930 sits on the Japanese company's business line of notebooks, offering an Ultrabook for those hard at work. As Ultrabooks often are, the Protege Z930 takes the skinny line, rather than the slightly more meaty look of the consumer Toshiba Satellite U840 announced at the same time as this model.

Toshiba's Z930-108 could make a good choice as a portable business laptop. It's thin, extremely light and has good build quality. Features are abundant and it’s a fast performer too. But the Z930-108 doesn't quite deserve the ultimate business laptop title, so long as the Acer TravelMate P6 can run half as long again from its internal battery.

The Toshiba Portege Z930 (model PT235A-00V00D01) is a 13.3in Ultrabook designed specifically for business users. Toshiba's thin-and-light Portege Z930 ships with business features such as a vPro chipset, biometrics and integrated 3G, in addition to a useful range of built-in ports. It could use a better screen, touchpad and keyboard, but its overall usability is still quite good and it's a fine Ultrabook to travel with on a daily basis.

The Toshiba Portege Z930 might be the lightest 13in laptop in the world - which is undeniably impressive - but it’s not the prettiest or the best. Admittedly there’s not an awful lot of choice when it comes to business-capable Ultrabooks, especially ones also equipped with 3G. But too much about this model has stayed the same as its predecessor, including somewhat awkward connectivity, a mediocre typing experience, and its average screen… Ultrabooks have moved on.

The Toshiba Portege Z930 series is a textbook example of a mainstream ultrabook. It's thin, it's light, its battery life is very good, and the entry-point model I tested, the Z935-P300, has enough processing performance for normal everyday computing. The Toshiba Portege Z935-P300 is an excellent ultrabook value if you can overlook its few design shortcomings.

The Toshiba Portégé Z935 Ultrabook gets a solid 2.5-star rating. For some business users, such as those who go to a lot of meetings and make basic presentations, it will be a pretty good laptop. After all, it’s lightweight, is a solid overall performer, and has several nice hookup options, including VGA and HDMI, as well as WiDi and Bluetooth. For other business users—those who travel often and want to get work done on the fly—the Portégé Z935 is a poor choice. The keyboard and trackpad definitely need some work, and the overall construction doesn’t seem very sturdy. Plus, multimedia performance is pretty weak, even for the ultraportable category.

The Toshiba Portege Z935-P300 is an Ultrabook to be reckoned with. Like last year's version, it's super-light at 2.4 pounds, but a stronger performer, thanks to the combination of a third-gen Intel Core processor and faster SSD. We just wish the keyboard offered a bit more travel and that Toshiba offered a higher-resolution display. Overall, though, the Z935's design, port selection and speed earns it high marks.

The Toshiba Portege Z935-P300 approaches the ideal for ultrabooks. It's very thin, very light, has decent performance, and has very good battery life. While other 13-inch ultrabooks like the Asus Zenbook Prime UX31A-R5102F come with a higher-resolution screen, less critical users willing to trade a higher res screen for some real savings won't mind. The Z935-P300 also has better battery life than the Asus UX31A-R5102F. The HP Folio 13-1020us has better battery life still, but the components in the newer crop of ultrabooks like the Z935-P300 has surpassed the HP 13-1020us' now dated hardware. Power, low weight, comfortable interfaces, battery life, and a whole slew of user-friendly features means that the Toshiba Portege Z935-P300 is our new Editors' Choice for mainstream utlrabooks.

For those that want the lightest 13-inch laptop they can get, they don't get any lighter than the two and a half pound Toshiba Portege Z935. Even with this low weight, the ultrabook offers some of the best running times available and has a very reasonable price tag. Of course, the design of the system is rather dated with its boxy look and the lighter weight does make it feel more flimsy.

Ultra-slim business. Striking looks, low weight, long runtimes and first-rate connections. Sounds like the perfect business qualities. However, there are shortcomings in details. Why is the premium claim not met?

When Toshiba updated the Portege Z830 with the newer processor, they just changed to the newer processor. The form factor, the rest of the specs and most importantly, the very light build remained as it is. And that keeps the Z930 as the lightest ultrabook money can buy. Performance wise, it is at par with the rest of the ultrabooks. And the alternatives you could consider include the Samsung Series 9 Ultra and the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon.

The Toshiba Portégé Z930 is a 13.3" ultrabook that's just 1.59 cm thick and weighs under 1.2 kg. It also has a matte screen panel, which is sure to please anyone who can't stand reflections and glare. The Toshiba Portégé Z930 has plenty of qualities for users on the move. It's slim, powerful, light, and has a decent battery life, a good set of connections and a matte screen finish. With a better screen and speakers, it could easily have bagged a fifth star.

Intel Core i5:
3427U: Fast Ivy-Bridge-based ULV-CPU in Q2 2012. Offers a core clock of 1.8 - 2.8 GHz and an HD 4000 GPU (350 - 1150 MHz). The TDP is rated at 17 W.
3317U: Ivy-Bridge-based ULV-CPU in Q2 2012. Offers a core clock of 1.7 - 2.6 GHz and an HD 4000 GPU (350 - 1050 MHz). The TDP is rated at 17 W.
Intel Core i7: The Intel Core i7 for laptops is based on the LG1156 Core i5/i7 CPU for desktops. The base clock speed of the CPUs is relatively low, but because of a huge Turbo mode, the cores can dynamically overclock to up to 3.2 GHz (920XM). Therefore, the CPU can be as fast as high clocked dual-core CPUs (using single threaded applications) but still offer the advantage of 4 cores. Because of the large TDP of 45 W / 55 W, the CPU is only intended for large laptops.
3667U: Fastest Ivy-Bridge-based ULV-CPU in Q2 2012. Offers a core clock of 2.0 - 3.2 GHz and an HD 4000 GPU (350 - 1150 MHz). The TDP is rated at 17 W.
