Making a fashion statement
Source: Star Techcentral English
If there’s one conclusion that I can come up with for the NB200 it’s this — this netbook is the one to buy if you like a small, cheap computer without looking like you bought a small cheap computer. Performance is not too shabby either, especially the keyboard. While battery issues can be solved by buying the extended battery, I’d have preferred it if Toshiba had just put in a better set of speakers into the netbook as I often use mine for watching movies while on the go. However those are really minor niggles, especially when you consider that you get a pretty high quality and nice-looking notebook for RM1,699.

Toshiba mini NB200 netbook
Source: Geek.com English
After spending some time with the NB205 it’s clear that this is a prime candidate for the hot netbook of the month. Toshiba got a lot right with this, including the design, the input devices, the size, and even the price. Of course there are some minor stumbles with the battery, performance, and sound, plus it’s not the lightest model out there, but it’s still a competitive machine. It’s probably not the best netbook on the market, but it’s not one to cross off your list without trying out, especially if you need the battery life. Note: The model we tested and photographed was the NB205-N312BL. There are other models in the NB200 series, not all of which have the same keyboard. This is a major selling point so users should be careful, especially if a model is $349 instead of $399. Laptop Mag has a photo and breakdown.

Toshiba's second attempt at a netbook is a stunning success... almost. The design's superb, the build quality good and the specs decent too. Only the above-par pricing - though you do get a better-than-average software bundle - and the awful colour schemes applied to the higher-end models let the side down. Toshiba: ditch the silver and chrome and you'll have a real winner on your hands.

Toshiba can't be blamed for the lack of evolution in the netbook platform, however infuriating it might be. Until someone deigns progress necessary (or nVidia ION systems begin to hit the shelves) all any company can do is make the best product possible under the limitations created by Microsoft and Intel. Toshiba has done just that with its second netbook, the NB200. Though it's bound by common restrictions, Toshiba has managed to add one or two unique features of its own and delivers in the all the right areas. There's no shortage of good netbooks these days, but the NB200 is definitely one of the best.

90% Toshiba NB200 review
Source: CNet English
Toshiba's first stab at a netbook, the NB100, was on the boxy side, and suffered from specs that were slightly out-of-date by the time it launched. With the slicker-looking NB200, Toshiba is looking to make up lost ground. With so many good netbooks now on the market, manufacturers face an increasingly tough challenge to make their offerings stand out. By adding neat features like the charge-and-sleep USB port and shock-protected hard-drive, Toshiba has managed to pull it off with the NB200. We have no hesitation in recommending it.

The new Toshiba mini NB205 is an attractive netbook that offers a fantastic touchpad, large keyboard, and easy access for upgrades. The battery life of the NB205 is among the best in class and should get you through a full day at school or the office. At a price of just $400 this might be a popular netbook for the back-to-school season. Still, despite these nice features, it's hard to overlook the flex and sound of weak plastics, the extremely flexible keyboard, and the weak speakers. Most netbooks have surprisingly firm keyboards, so we're more than a little disappointed that the keyboard on the NB205 practically "bounces" while you type on it.

This is about as high end as a low-end laptop gets. We admire Toshiba for finding a design hook, hanging itself off it, and resolutely staying there no matter how loudly the world shouts: the look of the NB200 we recieved is best summed up as 'diagonal stripes and plastic'. If you can find the black version we'd say the NB200 is a fantastic choice poking its head out above a busy crowd. Steer clear of the silver one, though.

The jump from an 8.9-inch form factor in the NB100 to the 10.1-inch design here places the NB200 firmly in line with its rivals. Aside from the excellent battery life, it has no stand-out features, but it still remains a highly attractive and well-made netbook. It may not move the game on, then, but it’s among the best netbooks currently available.

80% Review: Toshiba NB200 netbook
Source: V3.co.uk English
Toshiba's stylish second-generation netbook has a 10.1in display. The Toshiba NB200 is the company's second generation of netbook, featuring a more stylish design and a larger display than last year's NB100. But, apart from one or two interesting features, there is little to make it stand out from the many other netbooks on the market. Toshiba's NB200 has a nice screen and keyboard, and offers the build quality we would expect from the firm. But in other respects it is very similar to many other netbook models.

Toshiba: Toshiba Corporation is a multinational conglomerate manufacturing company, headquartered in Japan. Toshiba reviews

Only older games can be played fluently with these graphics chips (if they were not too demanding). Shared memory graphic cores in this category got the advantage of less heat production and longer battery runtimes. For office, internet, image processing, and video editing tasks these graphics chips are still useable without any restrictions.

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 950: Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950 is an integrated (onboard) graphic chip on Mobile Intel 945GM chipset. It is a faster clocked version of the GMA 900 and supports no hardware T&L (Transform & Lightning) accelleration (which is required for some games).

>> Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Graphics Cards and the corresponding Benchmark List.

Intel Atom: The Intel Atom series is a 64-Bit (not every model supports 64bit) microprocessor for cheap and small notebooks (so called netbooks), MIDs, or UMPCs. The speciality of the new architecture is the "in order" execution (instead of the usual and faster "out of order" execution). Therefore, the transistor count of the Atom series is much lower and, thus, cheaper to produce. Furthermore, the power consumption is very low. The performance per Megahertz is therfore worse than the old Pentium 3M (1,2 GHz on par with a 1.6 GHz Atom).

10.1: The netbook/subnotebook has a quite small display format. Nonetheless, it is a common format for netbooks. The advantage is, that the subnotebook/netbook can be small dimensioned and can be carried easily. Further the small display has the advantage, that it needs few energy, which improves the battery runtime and in consequence the mobility. The disadvantage is that the reading of texts is a bit exhausting for the eyes. It is difficult to use high resolutions.

>> To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.

1.18 kg:

This subnotebook is one of the most lightweight of all notebooks and can be carried very easily. There exist hardly any models in this extreme class of weight. 7-9 inch displays are normal for this class of weight.

1.4 kg:

This subnotebook is one of the most lightweight of all notebooks and can be carried very easily. There exist only few sub-notebooks, which weight less. 10 inch displays are normal for this class of weight.

81.93%: This rating is to be considered as average, because the amount of notebooks with better ratings is about equal like the amount with worse ratings.
