The next WebOS tablet bears codename "Opal", might arrive in September

The second WebOS powered tablet from HP will be a 7” sibling of the TouchPad

Seems like HP prefers precious stone names for its WebOS tablets! The HP TouchPad is set to release on July 1st, and already there are rumors about the next WebOS powered tablet from the American computer giant, codenamed the Opal (Touchpad was called “Topaz”). Netbooknews reports that the tablet name pops up in the compatibility lists of each app on HP’s WebOS app homepage.

The Opal will be a smaller sibling of the Topaz at 7” but with the same 1024 x 768 pixels resolution with an aspect ratio of 4:3. This means you can expect the Opal display panel to be significantly sharper than that of the Touchpad. It won’t have the IPS display of the Touchpad though.

The rumor of the Opal actually came out back in January along with that of the Touchpad, but HP will bring it only in September – probably to give enough time for the Touchpad to penetrate a good portion of the market, at the same time giving users option of a 7” version as well. Note that although there are tablets in all sorts of screen sizes, 7” and 9.7” have been the most popular till now.
