Rumor | The iQOO 8 is a flagship smartphone that will launch with a 2K LTPO VRR display and a Pro variant
iQOO is currently rumored to release an updated version of its 7 2021 flagship smartphone with the Snapdragon 888+ SoC. Provisionally known as the 8, it is now also believed to come with additional spec bumps, which might include a whole new display.
The iQOO 7 has an HDR+ AMOLED display with an FHD+ resolution. Its mid-year refresh, on the other hand, is now thought to upgrade to a 10-bit 1440p (or QHD) panel that, furthermore, will support a variable refresh rate (VRR).
This means it may be able to switch between 1 and 120Hz based on the demands of the software that drives it. The 8 is also said to incorporate the LTPO technology also rumored to enhance the upcoming 2021 iPhones.
The prominent leaker purporting to reveal these specs ("Bald Panda" on Weibo) has also mentioned the term "E5", which could be interpreted as referring to a next generation of the current top-end Samsung AMOLED found in many contemporary flagship phones.
These specs might thus be capable of enhancing content consumption and conserving battery on the putative iQOO 8 - or possibly 8 Pro, which has reported as on show at the ongoing Shanghai-based ChinaJoy tech expo.
The device is allegedly showcased in a chunky case with a central punch-hole (like that of the 7) and most likely curved edges. It is also now believed to launch during an August 4, 2021 event.
