The OnePlus 8T will have a flat screen: new leak

OnePlus may release its typical late-year refreshed flagship series soon. The first snapshot of this 8T line may have leaked courtesy of material found in the OEM's own version of Android. Should this be the case, there may be a display without curves and a single punch-hole in the offing for one of the upcoming phones.

OnePlus is thought to release successors to the 7T and 7T Pro soon. This 8T line may distinguish itself from the 8 and 8 Pro with a Snapdragon 865+ SoC in at least one variant. The OEM is also now thought to have a 64MP primary camera sensor for one or more of its upcoming devices.

Based on a code teardown of a new version of OxygenOS (OOS; OnePlus' skin for Android) conducted by OxygenUpdater (an app that exists to deliver rapid updates for this same ROM), one of them may also get a flat screen. OnePlus has become partial to screens that curve to varying degrees (possibly to enhance viewing angles); however, there is now evidence that the 8T will have a slim bezel on all 4 sides.

This is apparent from an image allegedly hidden within the OS version (which is the OnePlus 8 series' Android 11 Developer Preview 4, to be specific) in question. It is a face-on (possible) real-life photo that is, according to OxygenUpdater, intended for the About Phone page in the 8T's settings.

It shows a device that has a power button and volume rockers in locations shared with the 8 and 8 Pro, as well as the OEM's signature Alert Slider hardware profile switch. However, these existing phones' foreheads, chins and sides differ from that of the purported 8T.

To date, there are no hints that it may share the 8 series' 120 hertz (Hz) refresh rate and "Fluid AMOLED" panel. It remains to be seen if fans will prefer this display type, or indeed if this new leak will pan out into real life.
