Update: The official launch of the third generation iPad was predictably met with overnight campers and fans at several Apple Stores. With online orders being delayed up to several weeks, visiting an Apple Store may be the only option for most users looking to own an iPad 3 from day one. We offer our on-site impressions of the iPad 3 launch day in Munich.
Although the third generation iPad was revealed just a week ago in San Francisco, our editors at Notebookcheck have already gotten the chance to test the device with our usual detailed review coming very soon in English. In particular, we will be paying special attention to the 2048x1536 resolution Retina Display, the dual-core A5X CPU, the quad-core GPU and any other potential changes from the iPad 2. The only available tablet so far capable of going toe-to-toe with Apple's latest beast is the Tegra 3-powered Asus Transformer Prime, so expect plenty of in-depth comparisons between the two.
Next Friday (March 23rd) will see the launch of the iPad 3 in an additional 25 countries around the world, including Austria, Italy, Spain and the Netherlands. We expect no less than mobs of ecstatic fans just waiting to get their fingerprints all over the newest Apple toy.
Check out our brief video below of the grand iPad 3 launch in Munich and our initial (German) take on the new tablet here. As always, expect our translated review to come.

After graduating with a B.S. in environmental hydrodynamics from the University of California, I studied reactor physics to become licensed by the U.S. NRC to operate nuclear reactors. There's a striking level of appreciation you gain for everyday consumer electronics after working with modern nuclear reactivity systems astonishingly powered by computers from the 80s.
