If you haven’t heard of TabletKiosk, it is a Tablet PC and UMPC manufacturer headquartered in California, USA. The company has just introduced the Sahara Slate i500 Series, which is claimed to incorporate the world’s most powerful tablets to date.

Configuration

Built around an Intel QM57 Express Chipset, these tablets are reportedly powered by up to a low-voltage Intel Core i7-640LM (two cores/four threads) central processing unit with a clock frequency of 2.13GHz (up to 2.933GHz via Turbo Boost). In addition, the Arrandale chip features 25W max. TDP, 4MB of Level 3 cache and supports Intel’s vPro and Hyper-Threading technologies.

The Sahara Slate i500 Series tablets sport a 12.1-inch LED-backlit touch-screen display with SUN-BRITE support (Sunlight Enhanced Outdoor Readable) and a Wacom Stylus (side switch and eraser). This panel has a maximum resolution of 1280-by-800 pixels. Graphics are taken care of by an integrated Intel HD controller with up to 1.7GB of shared VRAM.

TabletKiosk ships its latest slate offerings with up to 8GB of internal DDR3 memory (two SODIMM sockets) and a 320GB mechanical hard drive (an optional 40GB Solid-State Drive is also available).

Connectivity

Thanks to a built-in Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6200 module and a Bluetooth 2.1+EDR adapter, customers can stay connected. In addition, there are three USB 2.0 ports (one is eSATA combo), a Firewire interface and docking connectors. Users who decide to purchase a docking station will supposedly be provided with four more USB ports, a D-Sub output and an Ethernet LAN.

Other specs and pricing

According to the manufacturer, the Sahara Slate i500 Series tablets will come with up to a pre-installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit operating system. Moreover, they have a weight of 1.49kg with two integrated batteries.

Further features include a fingerprint reader for enhanced security, an array of function buttons and indicators, as well as an optional barcode reader and magnetic strip reader. The TabletKiosk i500 tablets are priced at US $2,149 (500G HD | 4G Ram | 2 Batteries | i7 640LM 2.13 GHz Processor).
