Steam is offering a hefty discount on Watch Dogs 2. The GTA-styled open-world game has dropped from $49.99 to $4.99, which translates to a whopping 90% price cut. However, it's worth noting that this deal will remain active for a limited time, expiring on September 14, 2025.
Launched in 2016, Watch Dogs 2 puts players in a fictionalized San Francisco Bay Area. The story is all about Marcus Holloway, a young hacker who joins a group called DedSec with the goal of taking down a city-wide surveillance system called ctOS 2.0.
Players can traverse the open-world map of the game on foot or by vehicle, just like in Grand Theft Auto games. However, unlike GTA titles, the protagonist has acrobatic and parkour skills. Another notable aspect is that the missions are open-ended, allowing players to finish them through different approaches.
Just like in the first game, Watch Dogs 2 heavily emphasizes environmental hacking tactics, which allow players to get the upper hand on enemies. There are multiple multiplayer modes, including competitive one-on-one and team modes, and while it's a 2016 title, there's still a healthy player base.
To be specific, SteamDB currently shows a peak player count of over 5,000. While all that sounds great for a game with a 90% discount, there are some aspects where Watch Dogs 2 couldn't quite meet the players' expectations. For example, some regarded the story as a little lackluster and anticlimactic.
The game's gunplay has also received a fair share of criticism, with players noting that the shooting mechanics feel less polished than those of other open-world GTA-styled games. It's also worth noting that there's partial support for controllers (compatible Xbox Elite Series 2 Core controller curr. $153 on Amazon). Check out the video below to learn more about Watch Dogs 2.
