IFA 2016 | Sony unveils Xperia XZ flagship smartphone

Sony has introduced two new flagship smartphones at IFA 2016 as part of its Xperia lineup: The 4.6-inch Xperia X Compact and the larger 5.2-inch Xperia XZ. Both are notable for having 23 MP rear cameras not unlike on the existing Xperia Z5, but these upcoming models will incorporate laser auto-focus for even faster auto-focus.

The larger Xperia XZ will ship with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 SoC, 3 GB RAM, and 32 GB eMMC, all of which are already becoming more common on mainstream or upper-middle class smartphones like the OnePlus 3. The new Sony units will ship with Android 6.0 Marshmallow with a promised update to Android 7 Nougat when available.

Other features of the XZ include a FHD display and an adaptive charging technology that will conserve more battery power during use when the device is plugged in. Quick Charge and IP65/68 certification for dust and water resistance will also be standard.

The Xperia XZ will be available in Forest Blue, Mineral Black, and Platinum colors.

Meanwhile, the smaller Xperia X Compact will have the same cameras and adaptive charging technology as its larger sibling but without 4K recording capabilities. Its native resolution is lower at 720p and with a weaker Snapdragon 650 SoC. Colors include Mist Blue, Black, and White.

Both the Xperia XZ and Xperia X Compact will ship globally later this month.
