Sony shuts down its online store on August 28
Next to the big names like Amazon or eBay, Sony customers in the US can purchase the company's products from the official Sony Consumer Store. The website offers a full range of Sony products, including tablets and smartphones, TVs, camcorders, PS4s, accessories, and more. Those who are planning a purchase should hurry up, because the store will stop accepting orders on August 28th, at 1 PM (PST).
Fortunately for customers in other countries, the above only applies to the United States. According to Sony, they are currently working on improving the online shopping experience and will introduce a new product website soon. They did not specify if the new website will use the same address or will be a whole new online store with a new address. However, the message currently displayed by the store says "Sony will have an exciting new product website that includes our authorized retailers for your purchase preference."
In the worst case scenario, the "new product website" will redirect customers to Sony resellers and nothing more. Fortunately, the Sony Reward points balance will remain intact while users will be able to redeem various rewards even after August 28. Unfortunately, the 10 percent student discount will disappear on August 28. We will get back to the official Sony store as soon as we find out more about its future, good or bad.
