Next to the second generation of its Backup Plus Slim external storage lineup revealed yesterday in Las Vegas, Seagate Technology introduced the Backup Plus Fast portable drive. According to the American company, this is "the world’s first portable 4 TB storage device" that features dual 2 TB drives in a RAID 0 configuration. Despite its dual-drive setup, the Backup Plus Fast uses the USB 3.0 interface for both data and power.
"The performance and capacity of this new portable drive is beyond that of any other external offering to date." says Seagate's vice president of global marketing Scott Horn. The manufacturer claims this drive is capable of reaching transfer speeds of 220 MB per second, its scratch- and fingerprint-resistant metal top-case design recommending it as an ideal choice for field photographers or filmmakers. As mentioned earlier the drive does not need an external power supply, while its rather compact design allows it to easily fit in standard camera bags and backpacks.
The Seagate Backup Plus Fast also comes with the Dashboard software and can take full advantage of the mobile backup application for both iOS and Android. In addition to mobile backup to the drive and support for cloud services like Dropbox or Google Drive, Seagate Dashboard allows one-click and scheduled backups.
The Seagate Backup Plus Fast is only available in 4 TB capacity and black color. The price is $299.99 and the drive can only be ordered from www.Seagate.com for the time being.
