Although data transfer to a storage device over wireless connection is not a first, it’s still at its nascent stage. Seagate grabs the opportunity and takes a plunge into the market where portable hard drives are becoming wireless.

The new Seagate GoFlex Satellite is a 500GB external hard disk drive that can transfer media over Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n with the help of a built-in web server. The HDD has a dedicated app for the iOS family, but any Wi-Fi enabled device will work. In fact Engadget finds out that it can connect to more than one device at the same time.

Although the drive is little bulky, still remains portable, and at $199.99, it is not quite out of reach.

The unit ships with a USB 3.0 adaptor.
