Samsung Series 5 Ultrabook now available for pre-order in the U.S.
Last week, Samsung began taking pre-orders for its latest Series 5 Ultrabook in Europe, but U.S. customers were left in the dark as to when the ultrathin notebook would be made available in North America. Fortunately, two models of the notebook are now available for pre-order in the U.S. for $899.99 and $949.99, respectively.
Both versions are expected to sport the same thin exterior and specs. The main difference will be the overall size, as the lower-priced model will be 13.3-inches versus the 14-inch costlier model. Otherwise, the notebooks will each carry a 1.6GHz Core i5-2467M CPU with Intel HD 3000 graphics, 1366x768 display, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD with a 16GB SDD, 4-in-1 card reader and a 4-cell battery. Connecitivity options include wireless-n, Bluetooth 3.0 and HDMI. The larger model will carry an integrated optical drive, which the smaller model will lack. But, according to The Verge, the smaller model will make up for this disadvantage with an extra USB 3.0 port.
Unfortunately, although the source says the Series 5 is available for pre-order on J&R, a quick search on the retailer returned no such notebook. We expect to hear more official words about the Series 5 (in addition to other Ultrabooks) at this year’s CES.
