Samsung Galaxy S8 Active is coming to AT&T
Here's a question for you: how do you ruggedize the sleekest, shiniest-looking phone of 2017 so far? I can't answer that right now, but we will soon find out. Samsung reportedly has an Active version of the Galaxy S8 in the works, and it should be coming relatively soon.
Codenamed "Cruiser," the upcoming rugged Galaxy S8 follows Samsung's yearly habit of releasing a stronger, more resistant variant of its flagship smartphone. This year's model is particularly curious, given that the Galaxy S8 looks like the device least capable of being made durable. It has an edge-to-edge display with no side bezels, as well as zero physical buttons. A military spec frame, along with a less shatter-prone screen and some sort of waterproofing, seems like the most likely enhancements.
Samsung could just as well decide to redesign the Galaxy S8 Active to make it more durable. Of course, that would take away its most prominent features—switching the curved display for a flat one, or adding some physical buttons, as a result—but still keep its hardware specs otherwise untouched.
As of now, there is no information on price or when the device will launch. SamMobile, which first broke the news, points to previous Active handsets launching around June, so that seems like a fair release date estimate. What is known is that the Samsung Galaxy S8 Active, like its predecessors, is once again expected to be an AT&T exclusive.
