Reviews for the Rock Xtreme 685-I5-2540M

80% Rock Xtreme 685 Review
Source: Stuff TV English Archive.org version
Its big weight and low battery life limit the Xtreme 685, and if you're after a general purpose laptop you can get better built models for much less. What you won't find, however, is a better specced games machine for a similar price. Thanks to an excellent screen, great processor and exceptionally powerful graphics, it may not be pretty, but it's got a mean punch.

80% Rock Xtreme X 685-I5-2540M review

We can't help feeling that the Rock is expensive at £1249, though it does have an excellent graphics card and screen. We'd have liked to have seen a BD drive to expand the multimedia possibilities of this laptop. We've no complaints about the Core i5 processor or 6GB of RAM, but the battery life is a let-down.

AMD Radeon HD 6990M: High-end graphics card from AMD based on the desktop HD 6870, but with slower clock rates. UVD3 decoding and Eyefinity+ technology are still supported.

Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.

2540M: Fast Dual-core processor clocked from 2.6 to 3.3 GHz (Turbo Boost 2.0) based on the Sandy Bridge architecture with an integrated graphics card and dual-channel DDR3 memory controller. » Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Processsors.

15.60":

15-inch display variants are the standard and are used for more than half of all laptops.

The reason for the popularity of mid-sized displays is that this size is reasonably easy on the eyes, often allows high resolutions and thus offers rich details on the screen, yet does not consume too much power and the devices can still be reasonably compact - simply the standard compromise.

» To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.

3.1 kg:

A laptop with this weight is comparatively heavy and less designed for mobility than for use at the desk. Therefore, the devices tend to shine less with battery life than with a large screen and higher performance.

Rock: Rock is a British laptop manufacturer and focusses the UK market.

80%: This rating is not earth-shattering. This rating must actually be seen as average, since there are about as many devices with worse ratings as better ones. A purchase recommendation can only be seen with a lot of goodwill, unless it is about websites that generally rate strictly.
