Rhythm has released the Crankspeaker in Japan, an all-in-one device that combines a hand-crank charger with a powerbank, Bluetooth speaker, area light, flashlight, clock, and FM radio.
The 4,000 mAh battery does not require an external power source to recharge during disasters, but can be recharged using an USB Type-C power supply (DC 5V/2A). When fully charged, the battery can provide up to 44 hours of radio runtime, 50 hours of flashlight runtime, and 266 hours of area light runtime, according to the company.
When the hand-crank is used for one minute, this can add approximately 5.1 minutes of radio runtime, 5.6 minutes of flashlight, and 30 minutes of area light runtime. One minute of cranking can also power a smartphone for 2 minutes of active calling or extend standby time by 30 minutes, according to Rhythm.
The Crankspeaker uses a 45 mm driver with a passive radiator to play audio when connected to Bluetooth 5.3 audio sources or from its built-in FM radio. An LCD panel on the top displays the radio station or time along with the remaining battery percentage. Side buttons control the unit, including the flashlight (95 lumens high, 20 lumens low) and area light (20 lumens high, 2 lumens low). The USB Type-A port can be used to charge smartphones and other devices (DC 5V/2.1A max).
The IP44-rated device measures 195 x 72 x 78 mm (7.7 x 2.8 x 3.1 in.) and weighs 450 g (15.9 oz.).
The Crankspeaker is available from the Rhythm shop on Rakuten for 14,800 yen (~$110) in black and light grey. Readers in America wanting something similar might consider this hand-crank radio with built-in solar panel, flashlight, and powerbank on Amazon US.
