A Xiaomi poll has revealed the disconcerting state of affairs in regard to Redmi Note 8 users waiting for the MIUI 12 Global stable ROM V12.0.1.0.QCOMIXM. While issues with receiving the update OTA have already been detailed, it appears over 84% of Redmi Note 8 owners who responded to the poll have been unsuccessful in installing the firmware.

It has already been reported that Redmi Note 8 owners are probably going to have to wait until December for a fixed MIUI 12 Global stable ROM, as there have been problems with the rollout because of an OTA issue. Xiaomi set up a poll in regard to the situation to see how users have fared with installing the update, and it is a gloomy outlook for the Chinese OEM as 84.08% (486 people) have chosen “unsuccessful” as their response.

Xiaomi’s solution has also been met with some dismay, as the company recommends Redmi Note 8 owners should use the fastboot method to upgrade their device to MIUI 12. To do this, a user will have to unlock the bootloader, and a factory reset will also be required to “clear the residue of the past OS”. While there are many who are more than content with manually installing the MIUI 12 update to their Redmi Note 8 via this method, it’s clear to see in the comments that some don’t want to unlock the bootloader or simply can’t.

As there have also been hiccups with flashing the recovery ROM, Xiaomi has stressed that the fastboot ROM method is the best option for those who do not want to wait another month (or even longer) before their Redmi Note 8 gets upgraded to MIUI 12. There are even some of those who have successfully installed the firmware update who are now complaining about battery life problems. Redmi Note 8 owners have already had to wait quite a while for MIUI 12, and considering the many reported hitches, it might be best to wait a bit longer for the official OTA fix.
