Traditionally a tablet manufacturer, Chinese company Ramos is jumping into the smartphone market with its first mainstream offering.

Ramos was founded in 2001 in Shenzhen and is a well-known tablet manufacturer in its home country. Originally a manufacturer of early digital A/V products, the company expanded to MP4 video players such as the multi-million seller RM970. Ramos has been a partner of Intel for many of its tablets since 2012. In early April, Ramos announced plans to expand further to the smartphone market and has finally unveiled its first smartphone today called the MOS1.

The MOS1 will carry an all-metal chassis measuring 154.3 x 77.3 x 6.6 mm and will weigh 158 grams. The bezel itself is particularly narrow at just 1.9 mm for an almost frameless edge-to-edge design that echos the Sharp Aquos Crystal. Its 5.5-inch touchscreen will be the standard FHD resolution.

Further specifications include an octa-core Snapdragon MSM8939 615 SoC with integrated Adreno 405 graphics, 2 GB LPDDR3 RAM, and 32 GB of internal memory. Its proprietary UI will be MOUI 1.0 based on Android 5.0 Lollipop. The rear and front cameras will be 13 MP f/2.0 and 5 MP f/2.2, respectively, with a 3050 mAh battery. Quick Charge 2.0 is supported for extremely fast charge times.

Available colors for the MOS1 include Gold, Gray, and White. Prices start at around 2000 Yuan or the equivalent of 295 Euros. Ramos intends to introduce even more mobile devices in the future, including the MOS1 Max with a 6.x-inch display and a larger battery pack of at least 6000 mAh.
