PC and tablet sales decline as wearable sales boom
IDC has released its latest sales figures to expose the declining state of the PC market, which is expected to be down 8.7 percent for the year.

Analysts at IDC are predicting that the global PC market will be down 8.7 percent to 281.6 million units shipped for all of 2015. The strengthening Dollar and growing unsold inventories from previous quarters are proving to be too much to handle for the upswing in sales due to the recent Windows 10 launch. IDC is not expecting a significant recovery for the PC market anytime soon.

The tablet and convertible markets will be down this year as well from the previously predicted 3.8 percent to a much larger 8 percent. Overall shipments are expected to be around 212 million units for both tablets and 2-in-1 models. Interestingly, detachables in particular are a unique exception as shipments are up 86.5 percent year-over-year. As for the OS race, Windows experienced a huge gain of 59.5 percent compared to last year while both Android and Apple saw small losses.

IDC also sees the Apple Watch as a success. The firm predicts 3.6 million Apple Watches shipped worldwide as of Q2 2015. This puts Apple in second place for worldwide wearable manufacturers behind Fitbit with 4.4 million units. Xiaomi, Garmin, and Samsung round up the top five with 3.1 million, 0.7 million, and 0.6 million units, respectively.
