Oukitel WP21 Ultra: An upcoming rugged Android smartphone with "advanced" thermal imaging specs
Oukitel has already announced that it will debut the WP22 as "the world's loudest smartphone" on March 20, 2023. Now, it seems this launch is more of a product event, as the new Ultra version of the WP21 will also be introduced on that day.
The Ultra is in fact mostly the same as the pre-existing 12GB RAM/256GB storage WP-series variant - although this does mean the prospective buyer gets a rugged phone with an FHD+ display of a decent 120Hz refresh rate powered by the MediaTek Helio G99 SoC and (still, unfortunately,) Android 12.
However, the WP21 Ultra drops the "dual display" gimmick for one centered on "advanced thermal imaging" instead. This means the 64MP main rear and 20MP night vision (also to feature in the WP22) cameras are joined by a third InfiniRay shooter.
This sensor might be only 5MP in resolution - however, Oukitel asserts that it can deliver 256×192 IR images at as little as 25Hz, for an estimated 2x improvement over the average thermal imaging smartphone. The WP21 Ultra is currently slated to start at US$350.99 on its release via its AliExpress page.
