Reports point to Barnes and Nobles announcing the second version of their Nook e-reader early next month

Last month we heard about the possibility of Barnes and Noble introducing a new edition of their Nook e-readers, specifically the Nook Acclaim, and now according to the same sources  the devices could be announced as soon as next week.

According to Nate Hoffelder of The Digital Readermultiple sources have reported big changes coming to Barnes and Noble’s Nook division, with an announcement supposedly coming on the 7th of November. The sources also indicated that B&N is expanding their Nook departments in stores, and that the space “was not designed to house just 2 Nooks”.

In further evidence of upcoming changes, The Wall Street Journal is reporting much of the same, with a published article stating that 40 Nook boutiques across the nation will double their space in time for the holiday season. The expansion was apparently announced at the annual shareholder meeting, and the boutiques will expand to an estimated 2,000 square feet per store.

Barnes & Noble’s original Nook Color was released as an e-reader back in November of 2010, but the device took off mainly after devs modified it to run Android applications. In addition, most analysts expect the 2nd edition to improve on its predecessor's tablet functionalities, but we'll have to wait till next week to be 100% certain.
