Samsung is rumored to be working on a next-gen 200MP mobile image sensor for debut in the 2022 Galaxy S-line flagship. However, the reliable leaker Ice Universe seems all but certain this tip will not work out in reality. Instead, the "new Ultra" will get a possibly upgraded main sensor instead, albeit one that is still 108MP in resolution.

The latest leaks surrounding the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra's successor hint at a camera hump with an extra-large primary lens, mainly because the upcoming flagship is thought to launch with a groundbreaking 200MP sensor. However, according to the tipster Ice Universe, this eye-catching spec will not make it to the 2022 premium Android phone after all.

Instead, the leaker now claims that Samsung will merely work on an improved version of the ISOCELL HM3 sensor found in the S21 Ultra. It has its own triple-digit resolution (108MP), and has gained some victories over rivals, even newly-released ones such as the Sony Xperia 1 III.

Nevertheless, there are some mobile photography fans who might wish it was the newer, advanced ISOCELL GN2 instead. It also makes for some big main-sensor modules, even if it is 'just' 50MP in resolution. All the same, others might also have wanted to see a completely new camera in the S22 Ultra.
