After the Desktop Radeon HD4870 was beaten by the recently announced Nvidia’s GeForce GTX295 as the world’s fastest single-card desktop graphics solution, AMD is finally beginning to see a light at the end of the tunnel. At CES 2009, soon after launching its netbook-like Yukon platform, the manufacturer's graphics division unveiled an assortment of graphics chipsets for laptops. This series of mobile graphic chips are designed to cater the needs of both the low-cost and the high-end gaming notebooks.

Among them is the new ATI Mobility Radeon HD4000 series which has architecture similar to the RV770 and resembles its desktop siblings. Its features include-

·         up to 800 stream processors (4850 and 4870)

·         support for GDDR5 and GDDR3 memory types

·         CrossFire support which provides the option of switching back and forth between discrete and integrated GPUs without rebooting.

·         256-bit memory interface
