The high-end notebook will start shipping in the “coming weeks”
Overview
The multinational information technology corporation Dell will soon start shipping its new Precision Series member, the M4500 powerful workstation.
You may remember the 17-inch M6500 that Notebookcheck reviewed a couple of months ago which set a performance level that according to Dell was unmatched in this class. Now the company has apparently decided to equip a 15-inch notebook with tons of cool features.
Targeted towards “3D animators, engineers and research scientists”, the M4500 is supposedly world’s most powerful 15.6-inch mobile workstation.
"The Dell Precision M4500 establishes new heights for performance and mobility for a workstation," says Greg Weir, senior manager, Dell Precision workstations. "This system provides the freedom to discover, create and imagine on your terms, wherever creativity takes you. Top that off with the assurance that you are backed by our robust 'eco system' of partner certifications and our ability to deliver the application performance you need to be productive...now that's getting it done!"
Configuration
For all those consumers looking for a high-end computer, which can also be used on-the-go, Dell has equipped the Precision M4500 with a 16:9 15.6-inch Full HD display (optional HD+ sRGB LED with 100 percent color gamut support) with a maximum resolution of 1920-by-1080 pixels.
The high-performance laptop is powered by a 2010 Intel Core CPU. Customers can choice either a Core i5 or a Core i7 processor and have the system with up to an Intel Core i7-920XM Extreme Quad-Core central processing unit, clocked at 2.00GHz (up to 3.20GHz with Turbo Boost Technology).
Among the other features of the M4500 is the additional 64GB SSD MiniCard for high-performance data storage, high-speed internal memory (1066MHz and 1333MHz) and last but not least powerful graphics card in form of either an NVIDIA Quadro FX 1800M or Quadro FX 880M with 1GB of video memory.
Connectivity
Apart from the array of ports and slots, as well as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, the Precision M4500 comes with an optional Gobi 2.0 mobile broadband support and a 3.0MP web camera for video conferencing, according to a press release.
Other specs, Pricing and Availability
Dell’s new mobile workstation will allegedly support 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Microsoft’s Windows 7, Vista and XP. In case you do not fancy Windows, you can order the M4500 with a pre-installed copy of Red Hat Linux 5.3 64-bit operating system.
The company promises the 9-cell battery is good for up to 7 hours and 40 minutes (up to a 12-cell 0.5in battery). As usual customers can customize the notebook before the actual purchase with plenty of options to choose from, including a backlit keyboard and a multi-gesture touchpad.
Reportedly, the weight of the new Precision M4500 mobile workstation will be around 6 lbs (2.73KG). Furthermore, it will presumably begin shipping “in the coming weeks” and according to Endadget, the price is likely to start below the US $1,700 (less than €1,254/£1,137) mark.
