Fusion should come first in Notebook

The AMD Processor "Fusion", which should integrate a main processor and a video chip, should be first used in notebooks, and thereafter in desktop PCs. Its main feature is a good balance between performance and energy demand.

AMD wants to repeat the success of the server CPU "Opteron". However, AMD is, according to AMD, regarding the change-over to the 45-nanometer field one year behind its main competitor Intel. This could be a disadvantage for saving power. Furthermore, the processor should be only able to provide its full power by good support of the software-vendors. If the support is similar to the one of the 64 Bit processors, it does not look bright.
