Aurora m7700: X2 CPU Comes To Alienware Laptops

The beast that is the Aurora m7700 is the company’s first AMD powered notebook and its gone straight for the jugular with a choice of either Athlon 64 FX or X2 dual core processors.

These aren’t true portable chips, but rather desktop CPUs fitted into a gaming monster (15.6 x 11.7 x 2.1in) but it is some spectacle nonetheless.

A choice of GeForce Go 6800, 6800 Ultra and 7800 GTX graphics cards means there is no room for the fainthearted and the 17in 1900 x 1200 panel is just the kind of display you’d want to show things off (a more normal 17in 1440 x 900 option is also available, boo hiss). A couple of gigs worth of RAM can be slotted in and there’s support for dual hard disk drives in RAID 0 and RAID 1 configurations or alternatively a couple of DVD-rewriters.

Connectivity is basically an A-Z list of what’s out there with 4x USB2.0, 2x FireWire, DVI and S-Video connectors, Ethernet, modem, serial, parallel, PS2 ports and a PCMCIA slot. Audio is provided via a 5.1 chip with all the usual outputs and a 7-in-1 card reader completes the picture.
