OLPC XO-2
Nicholas Negroponte presented the XO-2, the successor of the OLPC laptop XO for children.
The organisation One Laptop Per Child wanted to create a laptop for developing countries to increase education. They presented their first notebook XO which should cost only $ 100. OLPC could not reach this goal, because in the end the laptop costs about $ 188. Anyhow, the XO has been produced 600.000 times since November 2007.
Now Nicholas Negroponte presented the successor of the XO. They want to reach a more ambitions goal with the XO-2, because its selling price shall be lower than $ 75. This can be reached by using special hardware components.
The XO-2’s size is about the same like a book and it is equipped with two touch screen displays instead of one display and a keyboard. It is possible to use one display as keyboard, but it is also possible to use both as one big screen.
We don’t know more about its other hardware components. The XO-2 should be ready for sale until 2010.
First images of the planned laptop can be accessed on the blog post of laptopmag.com (link below).
