Intel wants to provide a dual core Atom CPU, additionally to its single core model. This new CPU will be available later as expected.

The internet news site Fudzilla reports, that Intel won’t present a dual core version of their Atom CPU temporarily. This new dual core processor is still projected, but will come on the market later.

Therefore, the fastest Atom CPU is the single core version with 1.6 GHz. The upcoming dual core processor will need 8 watts of power, and this is much more than the single core one does. The release date of this new CPU will be somewhere around the 4th quarter of 2008.

Currently, Intel deals with accommodating the demand of single core Atom CPU’s.
