The age of subsidized netbooks/notebooks has still not come but it looks like it will soon as we are seeing more and more operators bundling up newly launched devices with their existing plans. In order to be really successful with this type of business model, the operators need to sell these devices at very low prices, which frankly not everyone can offer. Still companies like Verizon are keen on launching new models with their plans.

After successfully bundling HP Mini 311 and HP Mini 110 global 3G-equipped devices, Verizon will soon add the Sony VAIO P netbook to its subsidized lineup.

Now with the regular sights like these, it seems, that the day is not far when such subsidized netbooks/notebooks will be seen everywhere. Till now Verizon offers the Gateway LT2016U, HP Mini 311 and HP Mini 110 netbooks, but the VAIO P would be the smallest and lightest of the four.

The model that Verizon is rumored to carry will have an 8-inch 1600 x 768 pixel display, 2GB of RAM, 160GB hard drive, with a built-in modem with both EVDO and GSM support and it will run Windows 7 Home Premium. No word on the processor though, but the Sony Vaio P line typically uses the Atom Z5xx series.

The mini-laptop could be available for as little as $299.99 when you sign up for a long term wireless broadband contract (plus a two-year service agreement minus $100 rebate). This would make the Sony Vaio P one of the most expensive mini-laptops to be subsidized by the wireless industry.

Scheduled shipping date will be November 5, 2009.
