AMD doesn’t bring a netbook CPU for now

AMD watches the development in the netbook market ambivalent and currently the manufacturer does not want to bring a CPU for this segment.

Pat Moorehead, AMD’s marketing vice president, told that AMD does not want to bring a CPU for mini notebooks on the market at the present. The manufacturer wants to await the progress of this market segment.

Many different manufacturers presented netbooks in this segment and it seems like the market is growing, but AMD is still sceptical. AMD talked to the manufactures and they are afraid, because some think that the netbook segment could impair the normal notebook segment.

It is possible that many netbooks get sold, but less of normal notebooks get disposed and therefore the market doesn’t grow. Furthermore, more less powerful netbooks get sold cheap and this is not good for customers and for manufacturers.

Market researchers also recognize this danger, but they think that normal notebooks will get cheaper as well and they’ll eliminate the netbooks.
