Intel Centrino 2 launch delayed
Intel delayed launch of the new Centrino 2 processors due to chipset and antenna issues.
The Centrino 2 platform (codename Montevina) for laptops was initially supposed to launch in June, but is now expected to be available in early August according to rumors or at July 14th according to Intel. Centrino 2 includes new Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Extreme mobile processors, as well as an updated chipset with integrated graphics. It will also support WiFi and offers WiMax as an option. According to Intel, the new processors are faster (because of the increased FSB) than their predecessors while providing longer battery life (less TDP specified).
Intel says the delay was necessary to fix issues associated with the chipset with integrated graphics card and the wireless antennas. Intel declined to give any further details about the exact problems, but added that the processors are not concerned.
