SSD’s need more power as expected
The internet news site Tom’s Hardware presented a review of solid state drives and their power consumption.
The review team of the website Tom’s Hardware reviewed four solid state drives. They measured the power consumption of SSD’s compared to the energy needs of normal hard drives.
A Dell Latitude D630 was used as test environment. This notebook is equipped with a fast SATA hard drive. Interestingly, the conclusion of the review was that SSD’s need more power than normal hard drives, because the battery runtime of the 7.200 RPM HDD was longer than the of the solid state drives.
Certainly, a high performance SSD provides more performance than a normal hard drive but also at a much higher price.
