Broadcom’s new single-chip solutions
Notebook manufacturers are starting to adopt this new technology and customers should be able to enjoy it next year.
Broadcom has reportedly introduced a combo Wi-Fi/Bluetooth chip and a number of Notebook vendors will include it in their upcoming devices.
Acer, Asustek and Lenovo are allegedly among the first to adopt this new solution. According to Broadcom, in 2010 the combo chip will have about 20 percent share of its total shipments.
“Wi-Fi applications have been used in a variety of multimedia products, including set-top boxes (STBs), HDTVs and Blu-ray Disc players, and the Wi-Fi market will continue to grow”, says Michael Hurlston, Vice President and General Manager of Broadcom's wireless LAN line.
Supposedly, this new technology will cost less to integrate into notebooks but manufacturers should change the design of their products in order to be able to include the new single-chip solution.
Another new combo chip by Broadcom which houses Wi-Fi/Bluetooth and FM has also been introduced. It has been adopted by several Notebook manufacturers.
All we have to do is wait and see how this new solution will affect prices and designs of the ultraportable devices. Reportedly, laptops with the single-chip solution will enter the market in 2010.
